About this deal

The best part of the MX Master 3 is the magnetic scroll wheel, and the ability to change it from ratcheting to free-spinning. It feels noticeably higher-end, can connect up to three devices simultaneously, and can also be used with mobile devices via Bluetooth. The Logitech MX Keys S is passable for use with an entertainment or home theater setup, but its fairly large size and weight means it may be awkward to use from your couch. Although both feel great to type on, they provide very different typing experiences since the Logitech is a low-profile keyboard with scissor switches, and the Keychron is a mechanical keyboard with a fairly high profile. The tactile bump requires a bit of force to get over, but it still feels light and shouldn't cause fatigue over time.

Its wireless connectivity allows you to pair up to three devices over Bluetooth or its USB dongle, and you can switch easily between the paired devices without repeating the pairing process. The MX Keys has a rechargeable battery and can pair with up to three devices at once via Bluetooth, unlike the K400 Plus that uses AA batteries and doesn't support Bluetooth. Logitech has also added new software functionality for controlling the keyboard's backlighting and creating macros. But if you try to show it to ChatGPT, the image breaks the chatbot each and every time, without fail. So if you, like me, appreciate more than one operating system you'll also appreciate that little detail. The Logi Options+ software allows you to customize the top-row keys and the sextet above the cursor arrows, choosing from a wide array of navigation and window management functions or launching apps. Similar in size to Apple’s Magic Keyboard, its keys have a nice smooth finish on top and a slightly rounded cap in the middle for fingers to touch.

Ahead of IFA 2019, Logitech has built on that heritage and legacy by introducing two new products: The MX Master 3 mouse and the MX Keys keyboard. For more options, see our recommendations for the best keyboards, the best office keyboards, and the best keyboards for typing. The unit comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable, and Logitech says a 15-minute charge suffices for a day's use, while a full four-hour charge lasts up to 15 days (or 10 months with backlighting turned off). The top-row keys can be relegated to F1 through F12, but by default offer shortcuts for screen and keyboard backlight brightness, volume, media control, and others both useful (voice dictation, microphone mute) and useless (an emoji key). USB receiver: Plug the receiver to a USB port, open Logitech Options, and select: Add devices > Setup Unifying device, and follow the instructions. This keyboard has a Caps Lock indicator and default shortcuts on the function row at the top, including Emjoi, Calculator, Mic Mute, Dictation, and Screen Brightness keys. The MX Master Series, for one, is highly regarded for its productivity-enhancing keyboards and mice. This keyboard has a built-in sensor that recognizes when your hands are nearby to turn the backlighting on or off to conserve battery.

Other changes include a different set of shortcuts on the function row that now includes an emoji key. The Apple feels sturdier, but the typing quality also feels better on the Logitech as the Apple requires a bit more force to operate the keys. It also has individually-backlit keys that, by default, will adjust brightness depending on the lighting conditions around you.

This keyboard has terrible chord split performance and is unsuitable for playing games requiring many simultaneous inputs. I have also had various Logitech MX mice for years and they are good but why oh why do they insist on putting rechargeable batteries in them? Logitech claims that both MX Mechanical sizes will last between 15 days and 40 weeks (10 months) depending on whether you have backlighting turned on or off.

Unlike the original Logitech MX Keys, which connected via Bluetooth or with the Logitech Unifying USB Receiver, this keyboard connects wirelessly using Bluetooth or the Logi BOLT USB receiver that Logitech advertises as providing better security and wireless stability than a standard Bluetooth connection. This may be due to minor differences in manufacturing tolerances between units, but this marginal difference wasn't noticeable during testing, and this keyboard provides the same overall ergonomic experience as the previous model. While it lacks incline settings, its low profile design means you likely don't need a wrist rest to type comfortably. Additionally, the Macro Programming With Software and Windows Lock tests' test results have changed from No to Yes. The Logitech MX Keys and the Apple Magic Keyboard for iPad 2021 are keyboards with low profiles; however, they're for different uses.Like Logitech's previous Unifying receiver, it can control both the keyboard and one of the company's cordless mice. Both use very similar switches, but the MX Keys' keycaps feel a bit better, and the keys are easier to actuate. The Logitech also has dedicated software to reprogram a few function keys, and it works fully on Windows and macOS. It's very expensive, but it works via cable (ok for my KVM) and has the function to switch between Windows and MacOS keys. Most people shouldn't need a wrist rest due to the keyboard's low profile, although Logitech does sell one separately.
